RSC “ Applied Chemistry”

On February 21,1999 we celebrated the 90-th birthday anniversary of Vladimir S. Shpak, Professor, Doctor of Chemistry, academician of the Russia Academy of Science.

V.S.Shpak is one of the eminent organizers of the chemical industry in Russia. In the 50-60- s due to his energetic activity as Director of State Institute of Applied Chemistry (former GIPH, at present RSC “ Applied Chemistry”), research and industrial developments on technologies and applications of hydrogen peroxide, aliphatic amines etc. were performed. In the 1950-s with the assistance of Vladimir S. Shpak new research-and-development projects were started in the field of commercial fluorine-containing compounds. In a short  time GIPH worked out the technologies of production of hydrogen fluoride, fluorine, chladones R-22, R-113, R-142 etc., tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene, vinylidene fluoride providing production growth of many types of Fluoroplasts in Russia. GIPH technologies formed the basis for industrial production of fluorine compounds of different purposes at Ural chemical plant, Kirovo-Chepetsky chemical industrial complex, Volgograd chemical plant, Slavgorod chemical plant etc..

Also according to the initiative of V.S.Shpak , a branch of RSC “Applied Chemistry” was established at Perm-city (Perm branch) which works successfully on problems of fluorinated compounds.

Many experts of the highest professional skill trained by V.S. Shpak lead at present the most important directions of GIPH scientific activity. Today V.S. Shpak is still working at RSC “ Applied Chemistry” on scientific and technical problems participating in the development of prospective programs and the forecasting of the Center’s activity.
