Briefly about us. S. Igoumnov-"Fluorine      notes" Editor-in-chief

In this report I would like to briefly describe  previous history of our Internet Journal. "Fluorine notes" appearance and development prospect for the nearest future. Russia is a country with  developed chemical science and industry in the field of fluorine-containing compounds.

In spite of the current difficult situation in the country, Russian scientists and manufacturers are continuing to work and are trying to keep their achieved positions . At the same time, there has been no special periodical in Russia focused on  domestic fluorine chemistry and technology. The aim of our journal is to promote the  results of  Russian researchers and manufacturers work with the purpose of integrating  them into universal scientific and technical progress.

Also we plan to publish literature reviews and original papers of foreign researchers with the purpose to increase availability of the proper information to Russian readers.

A number of leading Russian scientists in the field of organofluorine chemistry have supported the idea of the journal establishment. The editorial board consists of

Dr. ch.sc., prof., MRAS Beletskaya,I.P.,

Chief of laboratory, Department of organic chemistry, MSU, Moscow

Dr.ch.sc., prof. Belenky, G.G.

Chief of laboratory of fluoroorganic compounds, INEOS RAS, Moscow
Dr. ch.sc., prof. Maximov,B.N. Chief of department, RSC " Applied Chemistry", S.-Petersburg
Dr,ch.sc., prof. Zakharov,V.Yu. Chief engineer, Kirovo-Chepetsk chemical plant
Dr.ch.sc. Zeyfman, Yu.V. Senior reseacher of laboratory of organofluoric compounds,INEOS RAS, Moscow
Dr.sc. Igoumnov,S.M. RSC " Applied Chemistry", Perm branch, Perm, Chief editor
Dr.sc. Kornilov,V.V. Senior editor , St.-Petersburg

FTB meeting

Dr.E.Banks and Dr. Igoumnov on FTB meeting

In November 1998 we published the first issue of the journal and now the second one has been prepared. Company P&M gave us an opportunity to place our journal on the pages of company's Internet-server that allowed us to make our journal charge-free to readers. Now some words about our immediate plans. In December 1998 a regular meeting of Fluorine Technological Bureau (FTB) was held in Manchester. Representatives of seven universities and over forty companies such as DuPont Speciality Chemicals, ICI, 3M UK, Atomic Energy of RSA, AlliedSignal, Zeneca Pharmaceutical, Great Lakes Chemical etc. participated in this meeting. At the meeting Eric Banks reported a historical review on the development of organofluorine chemistry and technology, Mr. M.Stamp gave a report on " Great Lakes" prospect for FM-200 (R-227 certified for fire extinguishing) commercialization. A number of papers were devoted to recent reporters' achievements in the field of organofluorine chemistry. At this meetingI participated as a Russian representative in FTB in discussions with organizers (participants) of Fluorine Technological Bureau on the opportunity to carry out a similar work in Russia and a fundamental agreement on cooperation of the fluorine technological Bureau and our journal " Fluorine Notes" has been achieved.

Details of the cooperation will be clarified during our teamwork. According to FTB recommendation, we initiated establishment of an association of researchers and manufacturers of fluorine-containing compounds in Russia that was supported ( now it is absolutely clear) by leading manufacturers of fluorine chemical production. By this time Kirovo-Chepetsk chemical plant, RSC " Applied Chemistry", P&M and a number of other companies have agreed to join the association. In case of successful execution of the project, FTB will render assistance in integration of the association to the international association of fluorine researchers.

Of course, we shall endeavor to cover all these events in detail.
